Eating at school. Are snacks healthy? - IES Cabañas (La Almunia, Spain)

My school canteen
First of all, I have to explain my situation because in my high school I won’t say we have something such as a canteen where you can have lunch and there is a huge amount of things to choose from when you feel hungry, it is more like a cafeteria.
Knowing this, I think having this cafeteria is really necessary for everyone because there are parents that maybe can not make their kids lunch, in that case, they can buy it there or when you just need a snack because you feel hungry, you can always get something cheap at the cafeteria.
Talking about my experience I will say my cafeteria´s food is pretty good; I mean of course there are these industrial snacks but if you want to get a sandwich, they are handmade so that is great. Even if we had a canteen where they served meals, I think it would be completely possible to eat healthy and varied without spending much money. If you check how canteens work in France, you realize even the poorest schools give their children good food varying the meals every day.
I am not really into snacks but normally when I want to eat something fast but not a sandwich or something like that, I take some candy, bubble gums or a bag of chips. But again, if I feel hungry, I always choose to buy something to satisfy me, a chocolate pastry or a donut maybe.

This is a "bocadillo de tortilla" (Spanish omelette sandwich). It is typical at our cafeteria and they are all homemade.

HIGH SCHOOL CAFETERIA
This is something I have always been very doubtful about, due to I was wondering if the cafeteria food is healthy enough for students. There are different types of food and drinks for teachers and students and they are the same for everyone. However, the healthy options of the shop are not the best ones there could be.
Firstly, the main snack they do is omelette and bacon sandwich, which has so many calories and not much energy for the rest of the day. Nonetheless other things such as ham or cheese would be healthier for the highschool people.
On the other hand the main owners do what is sold more often trying to earn as much money as it is possible. In condition to the number of people that often use to go in. This is nothing illegal or something, unluckily, beacuse they may put at risk their lives. Everyone does it when they have the chance, as a result of making money for themselves.
Could they do something to avoid  not healthy food for them following some strict rules. As opposed to this, people do not care about healthy food and they try to purchase chewing gums or unusual food, not very good fot them. Therefore it could be very hard to create something so difficult.
Finally as a result of this essay I would say that their food isn't as good as it could be given. Unhealthy food such as cakes, gums or sweets, they should be deleted whenever is possible now that it is still time to change the health of the people of the school.

IES CABAÑAS CAFETERIA
My institute cafeteria is a very small and comfortable place which is always crowded especially when it’s cold outside. There are days that you have to wait 10 minutes to order but finally you get used to it. Now I talk with the rest of the people inside to not get bored.
A lot of people often buy their lunch there but I only buy it when my parents forget to prepare it, I know I have to learn to make my own lunch. My friends and I also buy chips or chocolate buns when we’re hungry or we take some candies to celebrate birthdays.
The food which is sold isn’t very healthy; most of it is fast food which is the most popular with teenagers so I understand they sell it. There are also sandwiches which are very tasty and aren’t junk food so they are really good. However, they could include healthier food like fruit some days of the week.
As a conclusion, I always will remember this place with affection due to all the moments I have there.

Companies that offer food products and beverages in schools will no longer be allowed to sell anything unhealthy under new restrictions which will be implemented as of the 2019-2020 academic year.
The decision, which was announced, aims to encourage healthier food habits among children and fight against obesity.
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education signed a cooperation protocol requiring foods sold at school canteens to be labeled with a special logo indicating that the product is fit for children's consumption and is government-approved. The implementation aims to prevent the consumption of foods with little nutritional value and high energy density to combat rising obesity levels.
