Coronavirus Outbreak 2020. IES Cabañas (La Almunia, Spain)

CORONAVIRUS: STUDENTS’ OPINIONS

Optimistic messages hang on balconies

Several students from Spain answered different questions on COVID-19 on the 25th of March. These are some of their answers:

1)    HOW IS THE SITUATION REGARDING COVID-19 IN YOUR COUNTRY RIGHT NOW?

Coronavirus for my country, Spain, is like a monster, we have more deaths than China because we didn't know how to stop the virus on time and it has expanded so quickly. Also people travelled so much because they didn’t care about CODVID-19. Spain has a lot of sick people and hospitals can’t treat all people that they go to hospital because they have lung complications. (Andreea Gabor)

I live in Spain, in this moment there are 2937 people dead and 42058 sick people. Spain at the moment is the fourth country with the highest number of sick people. But if we look at the number of other countries like Italy with 69176 sick people, we are nothing. We can’t compare our countries because Italy has got more population (60,48 million) than Spain (46,66 million). So, if we consider these differences, maybe we are all in the same situation. It's logical that the more population, the more infections. (Raquel García)

I live in La Almunia, a village with 8000 population and the people stay at home like in all the country. The other day the town hall posted that there was one person with coronavirus, this person is old and lives in the nursing home, and if in the nursing home there is one person with coronavirus, more people will be infected, but still we don’t know how many infected there are with precision. (María Sanz)

2)    HOW DO YOU FEEL WITH THIS SITUATION?

Society in general is so scared and alarmed because none of us had lived this before but I’m not because I hope this is going to end soon and it  is useless to be scared the only thing we must do is stay at home and have fun with our families to escape the situation. (Raquel García)

In this situation I am stressed but not because of the deaths or the police officers that are in the streets, I’m stressed because of the school, I want to go now and forget everything. My brother is still working but my mother is with me at home. (Isabel Hodis)

Last week has been awful for me and my family. My grandmother, who suffers respiratory problems, became so ill and doctors thought that she had COVID-19.
Luckily, the tests were negative, and she is now quite better and living at my home.
Now, my family and I are so careful with the situation. (Pablo Ballestín)

I'm a little scared because you don't know what's going to happen. I think most of society is acting the way it should. (Claudia Moreno)

3)    WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND DOING TO STAY AT HOME AND NOT BE BORED?

In order to not get bored being at home during the quarantine, I especially recommend being active and exercising every day to stay healthy, I also recommend playing games with your family or online with your friends from the playstation, and one thing that is very entertaining is also making video calls with your friends to hang out.  (Jorge Moreno)

If you like sports, you can do it at home with videos on Youtube. Also, if you are more relaxed, you can read or watch series. In the morning I do the homework that my teachers send me, after eating I read a little and finally I do sport. (Sara Pellicer)

I recommend to have a routine from Monday to Friday like in the mornings, wake up early and do your homework. In the afternoon you can do some sport and see series or a film, you can play a game with your family or have videochat with some friends. (Laura García)

4)    WHAT ARE YOUR TEACHERS AND YOU DOING TO KEEP UP WITH SCHOOL LIFE?

We, the students, are doing the homework and the assignments at home and the teachers are uploading study material in Classroom. Today we had an online class with our math teacher to clarify any doubts. (Intissar El Maslohi)

My teachers send homework every day and the students should do it to keep learning, also they try to keep the pace of the classes the best way that they can. (Petro Ivan)

They are trying to bring us daily homework, but it’s so hard for them to keep the normal rate of the class. It is also quite difficult for maths, physics and drawing teachers to explain new things. Furthermore, they will need to do exams soon, and it will be complicated to do. (Pablo Ballestin)

5)    WHEN DO YOU THINK THIS WILL END? WILL IT CHANGE US?

I think this is going to take a long time and maybe until May. From my point of view this will help us to appreciate the moments we have with the people we care about, because we’re going to spend a long time without seeing them. (Paula Gérez)

I think that it will end at end of the summer, because all big countries like US or China are searching for a cure for this virus. I think it will change us in a good way, we will see the huge work that our doctors do for us everyday, also we will see that people can be very supportive when they want. (Petro Ivan)

I think this will end at the end of April. I think that after this we are going to appreciate more the sanitary persons, cashiers, police, etc. than the football players or athletes who touch a ball and are already millionaires. (Sara Pellicer)
I think this will end in the summer, but it will surely be seasonal, that is, it will come every year in the winter. (Rachid El Ghoufairi)

6)    OTHER THOUGHTS YOU WANT TO SHARE?

If we stay at home, everything will end sooner. (Ángela Joven)
I think this is going to leave too many deaths and it’s something that we will always remember.  (Laura García)
You have to stay calm and not stress. (Claudia Moreno)

People applauding at 8 pm to thank all sanitary workers risking their lives to save lives.
